FIVE COLOR WEAVE SERIES—Color pencil on paper, 2011
Exploring non-representational forms through the use of color is my current interest. These line studies using colored pencil and watercolor were inspired in part by Sol LeWitt’s Wall Drawing #65, on permanent exhibit at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. My colored pencil line studies involved choosing five colors at random and laying down lines in varying patterns throughout the series. That got me to thinking about using watercolor in a similar, but more controlled way, and using only the colors available on two watercolor palettes. I found the results of both series to be surprising, complex and lively. Series one is color pencil on 500# White Strathmore Bristol; Series two is on black paper.
